Career & Leadership Coach
Kate O’Sullivan – My Story
I managed my first team when I was 23, so I learned about management the hard way: by making mistake after mistake. I also realized pretty quickly that most organizations expect us to go from individual contributor to manager without missing a beat.
But the reality is, most of us don’t instantly know how to effectively lead others. That’s how I became involved in coaching and training.
I spent five years as a manager at Bridgewater Associates, the world’s largest hedge fund. I started by leading small training classes internally, sharing with others lessons I wish I had known, and things grew naturally from there.
In 2012, I left my job at Bridgewater to pursue my passion for coaching and leadership development. I earned my MBA from Georgetown University, where I focused on studying Management and Leadership. I also gained a formal coaching education through Coach U.
Since launching KO Coaching in 2014, I have worked with both individual and corporate clients around the world.
I have a few principles that guide my work:
- We are all happier and more effective when we are doing work we love, and work that aligns with our natural strengths
- Life is too long to hate what you do for a living
- Leading others can be one of the most fun and rewarding things in the world—it’s also really hard to get it right.
